midsegment
Joins two midpoints
A midsegment is a line segment connecting the midpoints of two sides of a triangle or trapezoid.
In a triangle, the midsegment runs parallel to the third side and measures exactly half its length.
In a trapezoid, the midsegment connects the midpoints of the non-parallel sides and equals the average of the two parallel sides.
The term appears primarily in geometry instruction.
