toolroom

Where implements live

A toolroom is a specialized area in a manufacturing facility where precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures are made, stored, and maintained.

Toolroom work requires higher precision than general machining: He started on the factory floor but worked his way up to the toolroom.

The term also describes the grade of equipment used there—a toolroom lathe is built to finer tolerances than a production lathe.
