tilt-rotor

Rotating nacelle plane

A tilt-rotor is an aircraft that combines helicopter and airplane capabilities by rotating its engine nacelles or rotors between vertical and horizontal positions.

In vertical mode, it takes off and lands like a helicopter; tilted forward, it flies like a turboprop plane.

The V-22 Osprey is the most prominent example.

The military uses tilt-rotors for missions requiring both vertical takeoff and high-speed flight.
