vertical flight
Helicopter's signature movement
Vertical flight is flight in which an aircraft moves straight up or down rather than forward.
Helicopters and certain drones achieve vertical flight through rotating blades; rockets and some jets use directed thrust.
The term distinguishes hovering and direct ascent or descent from conventional forward-moving flight: The aircraft transitioned from vertical flight to horizontal cruise.
