propagules

Reproductive plant units

Propagules are plant structures capable of growing into new individuals—seeds, spores, cuttings, bulbs, or fragments that can establish themselves independently.

The term appears mainly in botany and ecology: Mangrove propagules drift on ocean currents until they find suitable sediment.

Any detachable part of an organism that can reproduce the whole qualifies as a propagule.
