swift boat

Fast military vessel

Swift boat refers to a fast, shallow-draft patrol boat used by the U.S.

Navy during the Vietnam War.

The term gained political currency in 2004 when veterans attacked presidential candidate John Kerry's war record, spawning the verb swift-boat: to undermine an opponent through aggressive, often misleading attacks on their perceived strength.

They tried to swift-boat her on her business record.
