superscripts

Elevated text symbols

Superscripts are characters set slightly above the normal line of text, typically in a smaller size.

They appear in mathematical notation for exponents (x²), ordinal indicators (1st, 2nd), footnote references, and chemical formulas.

The singular superscript can also function as an adjective: superscript numbers.
