decimal notation
Standard numerical representation
Decimal notation is the standard system for writing numbers using the digits 0 through 9 and place values based on powers of ten.
Each position represents a value ten times greater than the position to its right: in 352, the 3 represents three hundreds, the 5 represents five tens, and the 2 represents two ones.
A decimal point separates whole numbers from fractional parts: 3.14, 0.75.
Nearly all everyday arithmetic uses decimal notation, in contrast to binary, hexadecimal, or other base systems.
