sugar ant

Tiny kitchen invader

Sugar ant is an informal name for any small ant attracted to sweet foods, commonly seen trailing across kitchen counters toward spills or crumbs.

In Australia, the term refers specifically to banded sugar ants of the genus *Camponotus*.

Elsewhere it's applied loosely to various household species: We've got sugar ants in the pantry again.
