subvariety
Type within type
A subvariety is a subdivision within a variety—a finer classification one level down.
The term appears in botany and agriculture, where a plant variety may contain distinct subvarieties, and in mathematics, where it describes a subset of an algebraic variety that is itself a variety: Each subvariety of the curve was analyzed separately.
