landrace
Locally adapted breed
A landrace is a traditional variety of plant or animal that developed naturally in a particular region, shaped by local conditions rather than systematic breeding.
Landraces show genetic diversity within the type, unlike standardized commercial breeds: heirloom tomatoes descended from Mexican landraces, Scandinavian landrace pigs.
The term emphasizes adaptation to place over uniformity.
