biotype
Shared genetic profile
A biotype is a group of organisms sharing the same genetic makeup, or a subdivision within a species distinguished by some specific characteristic.
In biology, biotypes help classify organisms more precisely than species alone: The new wheat variety is resistant to multiple biotypes of the pest.
The term appears frequently in agricultural science and epidemiology.
