streptococci
Chain-forming bacterial spheres
Streptococci is the plural of streptococcus, a type of spherical bacteria that forms chains.
Many streptococci live harmlessly in the human body, but some cause infections ranging from strep throat to pneumonia to flesh-eating disease.
The lab results showed streptococci in the wound culture.
