south side

Not the north

The south side is the southern part of something—typically a city, building, or geographic feature.

Every city has a south side, though the term often carries neighborhood-specific connotations depending on the place: We moved to the south side when I was twelve.

The entrance is on the south side of the building. (Capitalized South Side refers to specific named districts.)
