sniffer

Odor-sensing organ

A sniffer is someone or something that sniffs.

Dogs trained to detect drugs, explosives, or contraband are often called sniffers or sniffer dogs.

In computing, a sniffer is software that monitors network traffic, capturing data packets for analysis—legitimate for troubleshooting, but also used maliciously to intercept sensitive information.

Informally, sniffer can mean nose: He's got a good sniffer for trouble.
