A leak detector is a device or instrument used to locate escapes of gas, liquid, or air from sealed systems.
Plumbers use leak detectors to find water seepage in pipes; HVAC technicians use them to identify refrigerant escapes.
Some detect by sensing chemical traces, others by measuring pressure changes or using ultrasonic sound: The technician ran a leak detector along the gas line.
