slab-serif

Blocky typeface terminals

Slab-serif describes a category of typefaces characterized by thick, block-like serifs—the small projecting features at the ends of letter strokes.

Unlike the delicate, tapered serifs of traditional fonts, slab serifs are heavy and rectangular, giving the type a bold, mechanical appearance.

These typefaces emerged in the nineteenth century for advertising and display purposes, where they needed to grab attention.

Common examples include Rockwell and Courier.

The poster used a chunky slab-serif font for maximum impact.
