subheads

Titles within articles

Subheads are secondary headings within a document, article, or chapter—smaller titles that break up text and organize it into sections.

They fall below the main headline in a hierarchy: The article's subheads made it easy to skim.

In journalism and publishing, subheads guide readers through longer pieces and provide visual breaks.

Also called subheadings.
