sidelighting
Light from beside
Sidelighting is illumination that comes from the side rather than from above or in front.
In photography and cinematography, sidelighting creates dramatic shadows and emphasizes texture by casting light across a subject's surface at an angle.
Painters and architects also consider sidelighting when positioning windows or planning how natural light will fall across interior spaces.
The sidelighting from the west window gave her portrait an almost sculptural quality.
