shootouts
Dramatic penalty kicks
Shootouts are exchanges of gunfire, typically between opposing groups—police and criminals, rival gangs, or military forces: Three people were killed in the shootout.
In sports, a shootout is a tiebreaker format where players take alternating shots on goal, common in hockey and soccer.
By extension, any dramatic head-to-head confrontation can be called a shootout: a shootout between rival tech companies for market dominance.
