Foxy Brown
Seventies revenge protagonist
Foxy Brown is an American rapper from Brooklyn, born Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand in 1978, known for her provocative lyrics and collaborations with Jay-Z, Nas, and others in the mid-1990s hip-hop scene: Foxy Brown's debut album dropped in '96.
The name comes from the 1974 blaxploitation film starring Pam Grier as a revenge-seeking heroine—a character who became an icon of Black female empowerment and sexuality.
Both the film and the rapper carry connotations of bold, unapologetic feminine power.
