The Montreal Canadiens are a professional ice hockey team based in Montreal, Quebec, and the oldest franchise in the National Hockey League.
Founded in 1909, they have won more Stanley Cup championships than any other NHL team.
Fans call them the Habs, from *les Habitants*, an old term for French-Canadian settlers: The Habs are playing tonight.
