storm drains
Roadside water channels
Storm drains are channels and pipes that carry rainwater and runoff away from streets and buildings into waterways or treatment facilities.
They're distinct from sanitary sewers, which handle household waste.
The grated openings in curbs and parking lots—often marked "No Dumping, Drains to Bay"—are storm drain inlets: Leaves clogged the storm drain during the downpour.
