Crenated describes something with a scalloped or notched edge—a series of rounded projections like the teeth of a gear.
The term appears most often in biology, describing red blood cells that have shrunk and developed spiky edges due to water loss: crenated cells under the microscope.
Leaves with rounded marginal teeth are also crenated.
