serial number
Product tracking code
A serial number is a unique sequence of digits, letters, or both assigned to identify a single item in a series.
Manufacturers stamp serial numbers on products to track individual units: The laptop's serial number is on the bottom.
Serial numbers distinguish otherwise identical items, enabling warranty service, theft recovery, and quality control.
