semi-trailer

Cab-pulled hauler

A semi-trailer is a large cargo trailer designed to be hauled by a truck cab, with wheels only at the rear—the front rests on the towing vehicle.

The term often refers loosely to the entire rig: A semi-trailer jackknifed on the highway.

Also called a semi or eighteen-wheeler.
