seeing-eye dog

Blind person's guide

A seeing-eye dog is a dog trained to guide a blind person, walking alongside them and alerting them to obstacles, curbs, and traffic.

The term comes from The Seeing Eye, a guide dog school founded in 1929, though it's now used generically: She navigates the city with her seeing-eye dog.

Also called a guide dog.
