seawolf

Maritime raider, colloquially

A seawolf is a pirate or Viking raider—someone who plunders by sea.

The term evokes the predatory nature of wolves applied to maritime warfare: The seawolves terrorized coastal villages throughout the summer months.

It also names a large voracious fish of the Atlantic, the wolffish, known for its powerful jaws and sharp teeth.
