sea legs

Sailor's steady gait

Sea legs is the ability to walk steadily on a moving ship without losing balance or feeling sick.

The term extends to any acquired comfort with an unfamiliar situation: It took a few weeks, but I've finally got my sea legs at the new job.

To get one's sea legs is to adjust and become competent.
