screen pass
Dump behind blockers
A screen pass is a football play where the quarterback throws a short pass to a receiver or running back behind a wall of blockers who have let defenders rush past them.
The blockers then "screen" for the ball carrier, creating a protective barrier: They caught the defense off guard with a screen pass that went for twenty yards.
The play depends on deception—defenders pursuing the quarterback find themselves out of position when the ball goes to a player behind them.
