rubber tree
Tropical latex plant
A rubber tree is a tropical tree whose milky sap (latex) is harvested to produce natural rubber.
The primary commercial species is native to the Amazon basin but now grows widely in Southeast Asian plantations.
Rubber tree plantations transformed the economy of Malaysia.
The term also applies to certain houseplants in the fig family with thick, glossy leaves.
