round shot

Spherical artillery ammunition

Round shot is a solid spherical projectile fired from cannons and other artillery, used from the medieval period through the 19th century.

The balls were typically cast iron, designed to smash through ship hulls, fortification walls, or massed infantry.

The round shot tore through the enemy line.

Also called cannonball.
