retinue

Accompanying advisory group

A retinue is the group of attendants, servants, or supporters accompanying an important person.

Kings traveled with retinues of advisors and guards; celebrities arrive with retinues of assistants and bodyguards.

The word suggests both status and dependence—the important figure needs the entourage, and the entourage needs the patron: The ambassador arrived with her full retinue.
