retinal detachment
Eyeball layer separation
Retinal detachment is a medical emergency in which the retina—the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye—separates from its underlying support layer.
Without prompt treatment, it leads to permanent vision loss.
Symptoms include sudden flashes of light, floaters, and a shadow or curtain across the visual field: She went to the ER when she noticed signs of retinal detachment.
