vote rigging
Corrupting ballot counts
Vote rigging is the manipulation of an election to produce a fraudulent outcome.
Methods include tampering with ballots, falsifying vote counts, preventing eligible voters from casting ballots, or stuffing ballot boxes with fake votes.
The term carries strong negative connotations and is often used as an accusation in contested elections, whether or not actual fraud occurred.
Opposition leaders claimed vote rigging after the incumbent won by an implausible margin.
Related terms include election fraud and ballot stuffing.
