reformatory
Delinquent rehabilitation facility
A reformatory is an institution for young offenders, intended to reform rather than simply punish—a juvenile detention facility with an educational mission.
The term is now dated; such institutions are more commonly called juvenile detention centers or youth correctional facilities.
As an adjective, reformatory means intended to bring about reform: reformatory measures, reformatory discipline.
