read-out

Instrument's visual output

A read-out is information displayed or produced by an electronic device or instrument—the numbers on a digital thermometer, data from a sensor, results from a medical test.

The term suggests processed information made accessible: The read-out showed her blood pressure was normal.

In political contexts, a read-out is an official summary of a meeting or phone call: The White House released a read-out of the president's conversation with the prime minister.
