method acting
Becoming the character
Method acting is an approach to performance in which actors draw on their own emotions and experiences to inhabit a character, rather than relying on external technique alone.
Practitioners may stay in character off-camera, pursue extreme physical transformations, or immerse themselves in environments similar to their character's: He gained fifty pounds for the role—real method acting.
The approach derives from Stanislavski's system as adapted by American teachers like Lee Strasberg. (Capitalized Method acting refers to the same technique.)
