pole vaulting
Flexing rod athletics
Pole vaulting is a track and field event in which athletes sprint down a runway, plant a long flexible pole into a box, and use the pole's bend to propel themselves over a high crossbar.
The pole bends dramatically under the vaulter's weight, converting horizontal speed into vertical lift.
Heights exceed six meters at elite levels.
Also called the pole vault.
