picture tube
Old television display
A picture tube is the cathode ray tube in a television set—the large glass vacuum tube that displays images by firing electron beams at a phosphorescent screen.
The term was common when televisions were bulky furniture pieces built around these heavy components.
Flat-screen technology has made picture tubes largely obsolete.
