tetrode

Dual-grid vacuum tube

A tetrode is a vacuum tube with four electrodes: a cathode, an anode, a control grid, and a screen grid.

The screen grid, added between control grid and anode, reduces unwanted capacitance and improves amplification at high frequencies.

Tetrodes were largely superseded by pentodes and then transistors, but remain relevant in high-power radio transmitters.
