LED TV

Diode-lit display

An LED TV is a flat-panel television that uses light-emitting diodes to illuminate an LCD screen.

The term is slightly misleading—the LEDs provide backlighting rather than forming the image directly.

LED TVs replaced older LCD sets that used fluorescent backlighting, offering thinner profiles, better contrast, and lower power consumption: We mounted the new LED TV on the wall.
