pentode
Quintuple-element valve
A pentode is a vacuum tube with five electrodes—cathode, anode, control grid, screen grid, and suppressor grid.
The additional grids give pentodes better amplification and stability than simpler tubes like triodes.
Pentodes were essential components in radio receivers, amplifiers, and early electronic equipment before transistors replaced most vacuum tube technology.
