pennon
Knight's pointed flag
A pennon is a long, narrow flag tapering to a point, traditionally borne on a lance or spear.
Knights carried pennons to identify themselves in battle.
The word extends to any similar flag or streamer: Pennons snapped in the wind along the castle walls.
Related to pennant, which shares the sense of a pointed or tapered flag.
