betel
Asian chewing leaf
Betel is a tropical Asian vine whose leaves are wrapped around sliced areca nut and lime paste, then chewed as a mild stimulant.
The practice stains teeth and gums red and is common across South and Southeast Asia: street vendors selling betel.
The plant itself is sometimes called betel pepper.
