overprints

Printed-over postal marks

Overprints are additional markings printed on top of something already printed—most commonly postage stamps.

A stamp might receive an overprint to change its value, commemorate an event, or adapt it for use in a different territory: The stamps were overprinted with the new currency.

The verb overprint describes this process.

In photography, an overprint is a double exposure or superimposed image.
