overprinting

Printing over existing

Overprinting is printing additional material on something already printed—adding a stamp, date, or correction to an existing document, or layering one color over another in commercial printing.

In philately, overprinted stamps have new text or images added after original production, often to change denomination or commemorate events: The stamps were overprinted for the coronation.
