commemorative stamps
Honoring through postage
Commemorative stamps are postage stamps issued to honor notable people, events, or anniversaries rather than for routine mail service.
Unlike definitive stamps kept in circulation for years, commemoratives are produced in limited quantities for a specific period: The post office released commemorative stamps for the moon landing's fiftieth anniversary.
Collectors prize them.
