one-armed bandit
Casino lever game
A one-armed bandit is a slot machine—the traditional kind with a lever on the side that you pull to spin the reels.
The name captures both the machine's shape and its tendency to take your money: He lost fifty bucks to the one-armed bandits in Reno.
The term is slightly dated now that most slot machines use buttons rather than levers.
