oarlocks
Gunwale blade holders
Oarlocks are the U-shaped pivots mounted on the sides of a rowboat that hold the oars in place while rowing.
They allow the oar to swing back and forth while keeping it secured to the boat.
In British English, the same device is called a rowlock.
